Out Of Character Rules
• Please do not bring outside drama into the RP, it will not be tolerated.
We understand that not everyone can get along all the time but do not dredge up history with other players and ruin the great
stories and fun RPs we've got going. We're all adults and we're going to get along. If you have an issue with another player and
cannot resolve it yourself, bring the situation to the moderator. Keep in mind that consistent problems can result in you being
removed from the RP.
• Be welcoming to all players, veteran and green.
We all had to start somewhere, we were all noobs once, have patience and help them to become better RPers for future adventures.
• Don't segregate yourself.
Following along with the previous rule, the moderator works hard to keep the room a friendly and fun. It's fine that you bring friends
into the RP but please don't limit your IC activities with just them, branch out and interact with other characters and get to know some
of the other players in the RP. When we all intermingle, it is easier for newcomers to join in the fun. Granted, when vessels are at sea,
interactions are somewhat limited to the crew or other vessels at sea but while in port please be open to interactions with others.
• Harassment will not be tolerated.
We strive to keep a friendly, fun, and welcoming atmosphere in this RP. Verbal assaults on others will not be tolerated and both
parties will be asked to work it out; keep in mind that jokes can go over the line as well. If you have an issue with another player and
cannot resolve it yourself, bring the situation to the moderator. Keep in mind that consistent problems can result in you being

In Character Guidelines
• Please do not push the low fantasy boundary.
We allow certain races such as mermaids or sirens and characters to do voodoo magic because it fits the theme of the RP - it follows
along with nautical legends and pirate folklore. Human, mermaid, and siren characters are not able to perform magic of any sort.
However, some folklore races may be blessed with unique, natural abilities simply due to their race.
Characters able to manipulate the winds, tides, and sea life are limited to maintain the low fantasy element.
• Refrain from god modding, auto hitting, and metagaming.
Remember that the majority of the characters in this RP are human and all are mortals - they sweat, bleed, grow tired, and can be
killed. During confrontations with characters, vessels, or towns do not assume all strikes land, use terms such as "attempt", to refrain
from auto hitting. In the same respect, do not allow your character or vessel to leave the confrontation unscathed by defying the laws
of physics; be realistic. Damages can be calculated using the coins or dice or other methods to the player's discretion; remember
you control what hits your character or vessel. Be careful not to apply information from a character's profile into RP unless it has
been ICly obtained (via history, dialogue, experience, etc.) or approved by the player via whisper.
• You are free to create NPCs but be careful not to control the NPCs of others.
NPCs are essential in some scenes, you're welcome to have permanent NPCs or temporary ones that simply add drama and excitement
to a particular scene. The person whom creates an NPC (whether it be a barmaid, animal, or crewman) is the only one who can dictate
the actions of the character - unless permission is given to others. Just to be courteous, ask before dictating the actions of a character
you didn't create, even the littlest or most insignificant.
• Keep in mind the different social views of this century.
During these times, racism was extremely common; the English and Spanish hated one another. Slaves were treated as property
and often abused, women had no rights and were often touched (patted on the rump) or struck for speaking out again a man's ideals
and several were still married off to suitors by their parents. Those accused of witchcraft were stoned or burned at the stake once
caught, as were homosexuals. Characters will be using terms that are considered, in this day, racist and offensive, please keep in mind
that it is directed toward the character not the player. Maltreatment of certain characters is due to the setting and not a personal
dislike between players. This does not mean that women cannot speak out or that no one can be nice to a slave, by all means do so, but
remember the century in which you are RPing.
• Conflict is abundant in this setting, be prepared.
Given the warring setting, conflicts often occur, anything from a verbal spat to naval battles. Fights can be fully played out or
summarized quickly. Players can use the coin or dice to decide hits or damages as well. There must be one player per party present
during the battle and preferably the moderator present; large-scale naval combat is slightly limited as the outcome can change the
course of the RP. This includes assaults on opposing navies and their ports or pirates and their fleets, and certain cargo/merchant vessels.
If a moderator can't be present, please save a log for review.
If you'd like to assault another ship, mainly an NPC ship, that is still doable and another player or the moderator could be asked to
play that role. Preferably, discuss these plans with the moderator before action is taken. I just like to know what's goin' on.
• Characters might die.
Character death is part of every story, all we ask is that you're open to the idea. We trust our members to create fantastic stories with
their characters and all deaths to be heart wrenching and tragic. No character death shall be committed unless the player agrees.
• Some pirates do keep to the Code.
Yes, the scallywags do have their own set of custom rules that dictate behavior but not all pirates follow them to the letter. No, your
pirate is not forced to follow the Code but be prepared for other pirates that might be upset about it.
